Download The Climate Impact Company Australia Season 1-3 Ahead Outlook
Drought conditions are occurring now in Southwest Australia affecting canola and wheat plus the north and west portions of canola, corn and wheat areas in east-central to interior Southeast Australia. The Climate Impact Company outlooks for late winter and spring indicate these drought areas will expand particularly across eastern Australia. Attendant warmer than normal climate accompanies the dry climate.
Entering meteorological summer all major crop areas will be encountering drought or near drought conditions despite the lack of an El Nino or positive phase Indian Ocean Dipole. The dry climate causing the drought conditions is based primarily on widespread anomalous warm SSTA patterns in the subtropics on either side of Australia.
The summer outlook indicates some wet weather to relieve drought near the east coast of Australia while the remainder of southern Australia experiencing drought receives normally minimal amount. The actual drier than normal climate shifts into the north during the summer season.
Widespread drought conditions are favored as the summer season approaches.
