Week 2 Ahead: January 21-27, 2018
Comment: A cold trough brings snow (and cold) to the West while in the East warmth ahead of the cold trough could be impressive and also causes additional northern snow melt. The forecast is based on a consensus between the ECM and GFS ensemble. There is no arctic air in the pattern due to a general stratospheric cooling event across northern North America.
Week 3 Ahead: January 28-February 3, 2018
Comment: Chilly temperatures into the Southeast/Gulf States early period and again the Northwest late period but no arctic air. The Northeast is mild.
Week 4 Ahead: February 4-10, 2018
Comment: MJO phase 7 is confidently forecast by ECMWF which supports cold West and still mild in the East. Â
