Heat wave conditions emerge East-Central and East U.S. this week. As the warmth amplifies in the East the western states turn quite chilly with record cold in some areas including a rain-to-snow transition Interior Northwest, Great Basin and north/central Rocky Mountains. In-between the two thermal regimes the Great Plains turns steadily wetter including heavy rains in the Midwest as midweek arrives and severe thunderstorms central Plains to Texas. In the 6-10 day period as a slow moving cold front moves eastward the Rockies into the Plains turns much cooler while wet weather persists and extends to the Northeast U.S. The 11-15 day period is uncertain although most models are keeping the southern Plains and Texas wet.
