Pictured: Current global SSTA and oceanic regimes described followed by the AUG/SEP/OCT 2017 global SSTA outlook using the GFDL model.
The Climate Impact Company ENSO forecast valid through May 2017 is updated. Using a constructed analog and the GFDL (model) the current neutral ENSO regime is likely to continue through the remainder of 2017. There are no major ENSO events in sight. Neutral ENSO will lead to a larger influence on climate by the PDO and AMO regime each remaining in a weak to moderate warm phase. Presence of a near record warm global ocean surface indicates potential patchy El Nino-like climate for the remainder of 2017.
