Pictured: The 15-day ECM ensemble snowfall forecast indicates Canada is covered (supporting colder air masses). The GFS operational day 11-15 forecast indicates the snow covered areas stay cold but to the south a very warm regime arises.

There is no doubt that snow cover which is already ahead of schedule in south-central Canada will spread south into the far northern U.S. the next 15 days. The widening snow cover helps to support developing cold across southern Canada and at times that chill surges into the U.S. The Midwest U.S. is in-line for the coolest anomalies heading into early November. However, the support for cold outbreaks into the U.S. may eases in the 11-15 day period as warm influences turn the U.S. quite warm south of the snow cover. The morning forecast indicates a generally colder change into week 3 ahead however the following trend may be somewhat warmer across the southern states.
