A cold upper trough emerges in the Northwest U.S. this week. Meanwhile the upper ridge in the East amplifies. The strengthening eastern ridge gives Jose, a hurricane south of Bermuda the chance to drift westward toward the East Coast next week. The Northwest trough has difficulty shifting eastward due to the blocking ridge. Therefore wet weather affecting the Northwest which will include snowfall in the MT/WY Rockies shifts east to the North-Central U.S. but has difficulty shifting farther east. The Northwest rains ease days 11-15 shifting toward the Midwest. During this wetter trend the Great Plains are generally very warm although cooler far northern areas.
