The last days of April definitely include an impression on the U.S. climate by the Madden Julian oscillation presence in the central/east equatorial East Pacific. The MJO tilts the low level flow into the U.S. from the warmer than normal subtropical oceans and causes heavy rains in the Central U.S. with a following chilly air mass. Heaviest rain is in the Great Lakes region next week. Late season frost/freeze in the Upper Midwest early next week as cold air flows south over fresh snow cover.

The heavy rain pattern eases as the storm track is weaker and shifts north May 7-13. The West tries to warm while Florida is hot again.
